Stylized Lion's Head for Jesse and Emily James

Jesse and Emily James - summer 2016
|
This is a rather unique wedding present which now lives in Los Angeles. Emily is the daughter of my long time high school friend Marilyn Johnston. Her husband Jesse is a stand up comedian and loves to collect animal taxidermy, which gave me the idea for the design.
The original pattern was was red and white so it was a challenge to choose the colours for this piece. The head was done in a hammered mauve and opalescent blue with a hammered iridescent background glass and turquoise jewels. It was very difficult to find a border glass that worked. I'm not thrilled with the smoky swirled piece I used but Emily and Jesse were very pleased.

Bandit and Jewel - Summer 2016
Chinese Hairless Dogs for Walter and Joyce
Meet Bandit. He is a Chinese Crested Hairless dog that belongs to our friends Walter and Joyce. I decided to make them in stained glass as a housewarming and 60th birthday present for Joyce in 2016.

There are about 150 pieces in this project, all very delicate to produce. A unique spirit glass was used to suggest Bandit's spotted skin. A hint of the pink shows through. His name is etched into the turquoise glass. The pink border adds a final touch to pull the composition together.
Meet Jewel. She is a Chinese Crested dog that belonged to our friends Walter and Joyce. I decided to make them in stained glass as a housewarming and 60th birthday present for Joyce in 2016. It was very appropriate as Jewel had to be put down that year.

There are about 150 pieces in this project, all very delicate to produce. A unique uroboros glass was used to suggest Jewel's skin. Her nose was pink, not black like Bandits and being from the powder puff variety she had more fur. Her name is etched into the turquoise glass. The pink border adds a final touch to pull the composition together.

Morris Peony for Chris Meyer - Summer 2016
This piece was made for our friend Chris Meyer who gifted us with 3 days at her lovely cottage on Lake Huron in the summer of 2016 after my chemo ended. Her cottage had a large circular window overlooking the living room and beautiful lake view. We installed the window for her the following summer.
It was spectacular in many ways. The design speaks for itself. I started with a unique centre glass that was both pink, clear and yellow. The pedals are made in 3 shades of translucent pink glass, which is expensive and hard to find. Clear crystals bring rainbows into the room and add stability to the piece. The iridescent crackle background glass sets the piece off in shades of green, blue, pink and gold.
